3D print recycling for schools and libraries

Tech classes, makerspaces and library maker labs make a steady pile of failed prints. We pick up that PLA and PETG scrap across the GTA and turn it back into filament.

Why schools and libraries use Spoolback

  • Failed prints, supports and purge stop going in the garbage.
  • Two labelled bins make sorting simple enough for students to do themselves.
  • A yearly report shows how much plastic you kept out of landfill, which you can use in eco-club work, a STEM lesson or a sustainability report.

Which plan fits a school

Each bin holds about 8 kg of scrap. Most classrooms and library labs take more than a month to fill one, so the when the bin is full plan usually fits best: you email us when the bin is full, we collect within 5 business days, and you pay $30 per pickup and nothing in between. Busier makerspaces may suit the monthly plan.

Plans are month to month, so you can change or cancel by email at any time. Compare all three on the pricing page.

Teaching with the bins

The bins are a hands-on way to talk about plastics and recycling: why PLA and PETG have to be kept apart, why 3D prints don't belong in the blue bin, and how scrap becomes new filament. The materials guide and how to recycle failed 3D prints are written so students can follow them.
